A. Muriel Smith Riley, a long-time Stamford resident, passed away on March 29, 2013 at her home. She was born on June 3, 1919 in Brooklyn, NY. She was predeceased by her parents Frank J. Smith and Alice Amerson Smith, her husband Melville T. Riley, her beloved daughter, Maureen S. Riley, and her brother, F. Kenneth Smith.
Muriel was a devoted wife, mother, grandmother, sister and aunt. She will forever be remembered for her abundant love of her family and her Catholic faith. Muriel's life was dedicated to others; illustrated by her donation of a kidney to her brother, her dedication as an educational assistant in Stamford Public Schools, and her devotion to her family. Muriel was at her happiest when surrounded by her family; whether it was at the Sunday dinners she hosted each week or enjoying a day at the beach in Maine. Muriel's legacy will be her love of family and the love her family has for her.
Muriel is survived by her son, Melville T Riley, Jr. of Bridgeport, her daughter Mary Beth Riley of Stamford, her granddaughter Kristen Riley Kilbourn and her husband Kent and their three children, Riley, Kelly and James, her granddaughter Jennifer Riley McDonald and her husband Daniel and their two children, Katelyn and Ryan, her brother C. Donald Smith of Norwalk and his two children, Karen and Michael Smith, her sister-in-law, Dolores Smith-Meeker and her daughters Debby Parker, Pamela Smith, Melissa Toth, and Aimee McDaniels.
A Mass of Christian Burial will be celebrated on Wednesday, April 3, at 10:30 AM at
St. Cecilia's Roman Catholic Church, 1184 Newfield Avenue, Stamford. Interment will follow at Our Lady Queen of Peace Cemetery, Stamford. Family and friends may call at the Leo P. Gallagher Funeral Home, 2900 Summer, Street, Stamford, on Tuesday, April 2, 2013 from 5:00-7:00 PM.
