Caroline Marie Pavia, 79, passed away at Stamford Hospital on Tuesday March 5, 2013 from medical complications following an automobile accident. Born in Stamford on November 6, 1933, she was a daughter of the late Anthony and Anna Greco DeSimone.
Carol was a life long resident of Stamford and attended Stamford schools, having graduated from Mother of God Academy Class of '51. Following graduation she went to work as a secretary at Dodge Motor Company and later worked at Conde Nast, then she went to work for the Stamford School system and was the beloved school secretary at Turn of River Middle School for all 34 years. Carol cared deeply about the staff and students at Turn of River Middle School and thought of them as extended family.
At the age of fourteen, Carol started dating Paul P. Pavia, Jr. She would meet him at Abby's where he worked and he would make her egg crèmes. After a long courtship, they married, on May 19, 1956. Together they raised four children. Carol and Paul loved to travel and their favorite destinations were Stockbridge Massachusetts and Disney World. Paul predeceased Carol on March 3, 2010.
Family and friends were Carol's passion and delight. She was present at every family celebration and would proudly share with you the accomplishments of her children, grandchildren, cousins and many nieces and nephews. Carol continued to travel and had plans to visit Disney to see her grand daughters perform this summer and to be part of a family vacation. She also was actively involved in the Stamford Bennett Centers Hope in Motion events. Carol also enjoyed Friday night bingo at St. Rose of Lima Church in Newtown. Carol was a devout Catholic and long time member of Sacred Heart Roman Catholic church. As a child she was a member of the Children of Mary Society.
Carol leaves behind a large and loving family including two sons Anthony Pavia, his wife Wendy and their daughters, Ashley, Nicole and Sophie and Stamford Police Officer Paul Pavia, his Wife Kelly and their children Kayla and Jake along with two sons-in-law Robert Schriefer and his daughter Jennifer and Thomas Perretta and his son Thomas John Jr. Carol also leaves behind her sister Marie Morgera, sisters-in-law Chickie Pavia, Jeanette Pavia, Vita Smith, brother-in-law Kenneth D'Andrea and many cousins, nieces and nephews including Stamford Mayor Michael Pavia. Besides her parents and husband Carol was predeceased by her two daughters Roseann Schriefer and Susan Perretta; her brothers-in- law Nicholas Pavia, Jack Pavia, Bill Smith and John Morgera and granddaughter Stephanie Schriefer.
A funeral procession will be leaving the Nicholas F. Cognetta Funeral Home & Crematory, 104 Myrtle Avenue, Stamford on Wednesday March 13 at 8:45AM for a Mass of Christian Burial to be celebrated at 9:30AM at Sacred Heart RC Church, 37 Schuylar Avenue Stamford. Interment will follow at Queen of Peace Cemetery, Rockrimmon Road Stamford. Family and friends may call at the funeral home on Tuesday March 12, 2013 from 4:00PM to 8:00PM.
In lieu of flowers the family requests that memorial donations be made in Carols name to the Marion's of Immaculate Conception, Marian Helpers, Eden Hill, Stockbridge MA 01263.
