Lewicki, Edward R.
Edward R. Lewicki, 87, of Cape Elizabeth, died Sunday, February 9, 2014 at Maine Medical Center. Ed was born in Stamford, CT on January 14, 1927 to Mary and Paul Lewicki, the youngest of six children. He graduated from Stamford High School where he captained the championship baseball team and played varsity football and basketball. He enlisted in the U.S. Navy in 1945. He received baseball offers from the New York Giants and Brooklyn Dodgers. Ed elected to attend Eastern Kentucky University on a four year baseball scholarship and obtained his Master's Degree from the University of Kentucky. Having a successful 35 year career with General Motors Acceptance Corporation , Ed retired as the Portland Regional Control Branch Manager. He began a second career as a Business Development Officer with People's Heritage Bank. Ed was an active communicant of St. Alban's Episcopal Church. He was an avid golfer and a member of Purpoodock Club for 40 years, where he made a hole in one in 1989. He is survived by his dearly loved wife of 58 years, Sandra, daughter Susan Lewicki and granddaughter Meghan Glancy, as well as his sister Irene and brother in law Val Kapteina of Stamford, CT. He was a beloved husband, father, grandfather and friend. A memorial service will be held on Friday, February 14th at 11:00 AM at Alban's Episcopal Church, 885 Shore Road, Cape Elizabeth, ME.
