Henry B. Poltrack, age 87, loving husband of Carmen Novo Poltrack for 50 years, peacefully passed away at his home on December 24, 2012. Henry was born and raised in Stamford, CT on February 17th, 1925 to the late Charles and Ludwicka (Leszcynska) Poltrack. Besides the time he spent away from Stamford in service to country and to attend university, Henry was a lifelong Stamford resident. He was the youngest of nine children and was preceded in death by all eight siblings: Frances Poltrack Deck, Stanley Poltrack, Bertha Poltrack Genovese, John A. Poltrack, Joseph M. Poltrack, Louise Poltrack Ellsworth, Jane Poltrack Kapteina, and Anthony S. Poltrack. In addition to his dearly beloved wife, Carmen, Henry is survived by many nieces, nephews, grandnieces and grandnephews. Mr. Poltrack graduated from Stamford High School with the class of 1943 and was enlisted in the United States Army where he proudly served his country in World War II. Henry fought in the Battle of the Bulge and throughout Northern France, Rhineland, Ardennes and Central Europe and was honorably discharged after the war. For his bravery, courage and valor, Henry was awarded several ribbons and medals of distinction, including a Purple Heart. After his discharge from the service, Henry attended the University of Connecticut and then the University of Pennsylvania, where he graduated from the Wharton School of Business. Upon graduation he worked for a time with Western Union, then went to work for Slenderella, before joining Conde Nast Publications in 1959, where he worked in Finance until his retirement in 1991. He was a proud member of the Veterans of Foreign Wars and a member of the Polish-American Club throughout his life. Since his birth, Henry was a member of Holy Name of Jesus R.C. Church, a church that his father had helped to form along with other Polish immigrants. Henry loved traveling with his wife, family and good friends. Together they traveled to many of the National Parks across America, all over Europe and the Caribbean. Of all the places that Henry traveled, his all time favorite trip was the time he spent in Poland.
A wake will be held on Sunday, December 30th, 2012, from 2pm to 6pm, at Bosak Funeral Home, 453 Shippan Avenue, in Stamford. A Mass of Christian Burial will be take place at Holy Name of Jesus Church, 305 Washington Blvd., in Stamford on Monday, December 31st at 11 am. Interment will immediately follow at St. John R.C. Cemetery in Darien, CT.
