IOLANDA IUSO SMERIGLIO - a Stamford resident for 43 years died Sunday, June 2, 2013 at the Stamford Hospital with her family by her side at the age of 86. She was born on August 30, 1926 in Luzzi Province of Cosenza Italy to the late Carmine and Luisa Docimo Iuso.
She was a homemaker and cared for her grandchildren. She enjoyed having her home filled with family and friends and cherished her Friday night get togethers known as Club Night.
Mrs. Smeriglio is predeceased by her loving husband of 58 years, Frank Smeriglio, and is survived by her beloved children, Michael Smeriglio and his wife Rosa of Stamford; Giuseppina Smeriglio and her husband Aldo Dodaro of Italy; Luisa Kemp and her husband Bill of Stamford; Rita Coppola and her husband Franco of Stamford; and Fran Marsala and her husband Gary of Seymour. She is also survived by her cherished grandchildren, Rosetta Dodaro and her husband Franco Gallo of Italy; Toni Dodaro and his wife Emilia of Italy; Yola Smeriglio of Norwalk; Frank Smeriglio and his wife Sandra of Stamford; Francesca Dodaro of Italy; Frank Coppola of Wilton; Anna Lisa Coppola of Norwalk; Chris Kemp of Stamford; Laura Kemp of Stamford; and Julia Marsala of Seymour; and her adored great-grandchildren, Marco, Fabio, Francesco, Alexa, Giusy, Amanda, Ava, Tyler, Maria Pia, Jacquelyn, and Aldo. She leaves behind her sisters Michelina, Assunda, and Emilia Iuso, a brother, Francesco Iuso all of Italy; four brothers-in-law, Carmine Sena, Mario Smeriglio, Louis Smeriglio and his wife Jean and Tony Smeriglio; two sisters-in-law, Antonia Smeriglio and Yolanda Smeriglio; and many nieces and nephews. She is predeceased by two sisters, Teresa and Carmela Iuso of Italy; her father-in-law and mother-in-law, Michael and Giuseppina Smeriglio and several brothers-in-law and sisters-in-law.
A mass of Christian Burial will be celebrated on Thursday, June 6 at 11 a.m. at St. Clement's Church, 535 Fairfield Avenue, Stamford, CT. Interment will follow in Queen of Peace Cemetery, Rockrimmon Road, Stamford, CT. Friends may call at the Lacerenza Funeral Home & Cremation Services, 8 Schuyler Avenue, Stamford, CT on Wednesday, June 5 from 4-8 p.m.
