John A. Grogan, 77, son of the late John and Catherine Grogan, a 42 year resident of New Canaan, died Sunday November 4th after suffering a stroke. He is survived by his wife of 53 years, Kay Grogan. He was born in Manhattan on August 16, 1935 and graduated from Manhattan College. He later received an MBA from New York University. He spent his career in the insurance industry where he spent 40 years as an executive at Union Mutual, The Equitable and MetLife. John served as the President of the Wild Geese Society as well as a board member at the New Canaan Field Club. He was an active member of The New Canaan Exchange Club and the Senior Men's Club as well as a volunteer at Waveny Care Center. He was an active member of St. Aloysius Church where he served as a Eucharistic minister. John was actively involved in sports his entire life. He was an avid tennis player, golfer and loved the adventures of travel. His greatest joy came from spending time with his children, especially coaching many of their youth sports teams. Later in life, John loved spending time with his grandchildren and attending their games and events. He was predeceased in April by his brother Reverend Richard P. Grogan, SJ. He is survived by his daughters Kathy Deadrick (Stuart) of Cincinnati,OH, Elizabeth Lisciandra (Phil) of Medfield, MA and sons John (Kim) of Weston, CT and Brian (Beth) of Lakewood Ranch, FL and 12 grandchildren. Visitation will be from 4-8pm on Thursday, November 8th at Hoyt Funeral home in New Canaan. A mass of Christian burial will be celebrated Friday at St. Aloysius Church at 10am. A burial will follow at Lakeview Cemetery.
