Joseph A. Pawlik

Pawlik, Joseph A.
Joseph "Joe" A. Pawlik, age 90, died peacefully at Greenwich Hospital on Tuesday, April 22, 2014. He was born on February 27, 1924 in Rytro, Poland to the late Wojciech and Sofia Citak Pawlik.
In 1949, he immigrated to the U.S. and became a United States citizen soon after. In 1958, while going to night school, he met Maria Brigida Reyes. They married in 1959 and had five children. He began his carpentry business, Liberty Cabinet Shop in the South End of Stamford which later he changed its name to Liberty Wood Products. He enjoyed traveling to visit relatives in Poland, Europe and places throughout the U.S. He also enjoyed playing his harmonica, dancing, going to casinos and spending time with his grandchildren and friends.
He was an active member of the Polish National Alliance (PNA) Lodge 1282, Polish United Club in Port Chester, NY, the Pilsudski Society Club in Greenwich, CT and the Holy Name Athletic Club. As an involved member, he held many ranking positions throughout these clubs. He served as an usher for many years at Holy Name of Jesus Church. He was a long time and proud member of the National Geographic Society Magazine. He relished telling the story how he became a member back in the day when other members had to sponsor you. Joe made it his mission to help newly arrived Polish immigrants establish themselves in Stamford. He helped them find jobs, a place to live, file immigration paperwork and lend an ear to listen to their concerns. He did all of this of his own accord without expecting anything in return.
He is survived by his children from a previous marriage, Dianne Rogers (Terry) of Brentwood, TN, and John Pawlik (Tammie) of Johnsburg, IL, his wife Maria Pawlik, their children, Dorothy Smart (Stephen) of Suisun City, CA, Josephine McKenna (Paul) of Stamford, Dr. Joseph Pawlik (Dr. Joyce Noriega) of Daniel Island, SC, Maria Veronika McDuffey (Perry) of Midland, TX and Monika Twal (Maher) of Stamford.
