Joseph F. Skrivan, a longtime Stamford resident, died January 26, at Stamford Hospital. He was 81 years old. He died peacefully with his children by his side. Born October 25, 1931 in Baltimore, MD, he was the son of the late John Francis and Helen Marie Skrivan. Mr. Skrivan was a Stamford resident for 50 years. He earned his bachelor's, masters and doctorate degrees from The Johns Hopkins University. Mr. Skrivan worked as a chemical engineer in research and development for American Cyanamid and Cytec Industries. He was the holder of several chemical process patents. At the time of his retirement in 1993, he held the position of Director of Engineering, Process Development and Scientific Services at Cytec. He was predeceased by his beloved soul mate and wife of 46 years, Josephine C. Skrivan. He is survived by his sister, Helen Claire Berger and her husband Charles, of Towson, MD, his son, Joseph F. Skrivan, Jr., and his wife, Lisa of Salt Lake City, UT, and five daughters, Marge M. Fisher and her husband, Ken, Elizabeth A. Chuhta, and her husband David, of Trumbull, CT, Katherine M. Sandgren and her husband, Peter, of Norwich, CT, Joan E. Lombardo, and her husband Paul, and Ginny C. Vicinus and her husband, Will, of Stamford, and seventeen grandchildren.
Joe collected good people around him and as a result impacted more lives than we'll ever know. He loved life, laughter and used his sense of humor in all situations. He was a gentle, generous man who will be missed by all who knew him. The family would like to thank Stamford Hospital staff, especially 4th IMCU and 2nd floor, and Dr. Sonia Bisaccia for their amazingly compassionate care. A very special thanks to Dr. Alan T. A Mass of Christian Burial will be celebrated on Tuesday January 29, 2013 at 10 am at St. Gabriel Church 914 Newfield Ave Stamford, CT.
