Loughran, Sr., Michaeal T.
Michael Thomas Loughran Sr., age 81, completed his transition to heaven on Friday June 14, 2013 at St. Joseph's Manor in Trumbull.
Mike was a retired Vice President and Controller of the Nestle U.S.A. Food Company. In addition to his corporate career, he was very active in the Stamford community through religious, civic and political activities. He served as chairman of the Parish Advisory Council and member of the Finance Committee at St. Leo's Parish in Stamford and along with his wife Betty served as Chair Couple of the Advisory Board for the Family Life Bureau in the Diocese of Bridgeport. Mike was also elected to the Stamford Board of Representatives, Board of Finance and served as Chairman of the Urban Renewal Commission.
A native of Stamford, he was a graduate of the Stamford High School, earned a Bachelor of Arts degree in Economics from Iona College, a Masters in Corporate Finance from the New York University
Graduate School of Business and also studied at the prestigious IMEDE Institute in Lausanne, Switzerland.
A veteran of the United State Navy, he is survived by three daughters, Mary Schmidt, Theresa Garabedian and her husband Dave, Monica Welch and her husband John, three sons Joseph Loughran and his wife Polly, Michael Loughran Jr. and his wife Theresa, Patrick Loughran and his wife Bobbi and eleven grandchildren; Kevin, Kyle, Stephen, Sean, Daniel, Erin, Megan, J.P., Colleen, Tierney and Patrick.
In addition to his children and grandchildren, Mike is survived by his brother Peter of Stamford. Peter was an outstanding pitcher with whom Mike proudly paired as catcher to form a somewhat rare and formidable brother battery. He was predeceased by three brothers; Patrick, James and John and one sister Catherine.
Mike was an aspiring golfer and member of the Brownson Country Club. He was also a member of the Gaelic American Club of Fairfield, Council 41 of The Knights of Columbus and Our Lady of Assumption Parish in Fairfield. Mike enjoyed numerous trips to Ireland over the years including his most recent trip in 2005. As a resident of St. Joseph's Manor he served on the Residents Council and was an active member of the St. Joseph's Men's Club.
A funeral procession will leave the Nicholas F. Cognetta Funeral Home, 104 Myrtle Avenue, Stamford, CT at 9:20AM on Wednesday June 19, 2013 for a Mass of Christian Burial at St. Mary's RC Church, 566 Elm Street, Stamford, CT to be celebrated at 10:00AM. Interment will follow at St. John's RC Cemetery, Darien. Family and friends may call at the funeral home on Tuesday June 18, 2013 from 4:00PM to 8:00PM.
