William Yoder

Yoder, William R.

William Robert Yoder, 89, husband for 66 years of Dorothy McGown Yoder, died April 19, 2014. Born July 13, 1924 in Tulsa, OK. the second son of Edythe Bollinger and Leonard Arner Yoder, he spent most of his growing up years in Ohio; Cincinnati, Lakewood and on the family farm in North Lima. After serving in the U.S. Army he came home to Stamford, where he met his wife. The couple settled in Norwalk in 1954 and raised their children there.
Mr. Yoder began his career as a tool and die maker at Excelsior Hardware in Stamford and retired from Condec in 1985. He also worked some years at Perkin Elmer. Most recently he worked Seymour's Hardware. He was a founding member of the United Church in West Norwalk, which later merged with South Norwalk Congregational Church to become the United Congregational Church, where he was a longtime choir member and active in other programs.
Surviving in addition to his wife are his children Rebecca Gammons of Beaverton, Oregon, Kathryn (Robert) Sandberg of Danbury, William M. Yoder of Arlington, Virginia and Susan Mendonca of Norwalk, nine grandchildren, Thomas, Allison, Dan and John Gammons, Julia (Peton) Snider, Beth (Brian) Collins, Stephanie (Michael Tieso) William R. Yoder and Kirsten Sandberg and two great grandchildren; Trevor Nagengast and Jack Chobody. He is also survived by three brothers Carl Yoder of Wilton, Richard Yoder of CA and Leonard B. Yoder of NJ, as well as several nieces and nephews.
