Zaccagnino, William L.
William L. Zaccagnino of Stamford, CT died suddenly at the age of 92 on Friday, March 7, 2014.
Born on October 30, 1921, he was the only son of the late Bill "Vito" and Jennie Telesca Zaccagnino.
He was also predeceased by his beloved and loving wife Ann Battinelli Zaccagnino, the love of his life.
He was presently residing at Stamford Atria on third Street, Stamford.
"Bill Zack" was a graduate of Stamford High School, Class of '39, and attended St. Basil's Prep in
Stamford for one year after that. He entered the U.S. Air Force
in 1942 where he served as a radio operator and instructor. He began working for the U.S.Postal Service in Stamford in 1946 at the Main Post Office on Atlantic Street, moved to the Glenbrook Sub-Station and returned to the Main Office where he stayed for 34 years, retiring in 1980 as the Chief Accountant and Director of Finance.
He then went to work for lifelong friends, Bob and Frank Rich, in the accounting department of the F.D.Rich Co. for the next ten years.
He was an active member of the Italian Center and Men's Club as well as serving on the Board of Trustees of King School. He moved to Naples FL in 1990 where he resided at and was a member of the Countryside Golf and Country Club. He served on many committees there including Finance, House, Architectural, Grounds and was President and member of the Board of Directors of his building.
Throughout his life Bill was an avid golfer and paddle tennis player both in Stamford and in Florida. He was a devoted husband, father and grandfather who treasured holidays and events with family and friends.
He is survived by his son Peter Zaccagnino and his wife Laurie Taft Zaccagnino of Norwalk, CT, his granddaughter Corey Ann Cenatiempo and her husband Steven Cenatiempo of Norwalk, and his grandson Andy Zaccagnino, of NY, NY. He also survived by his first cousin Mildred Ritchie of Stamford. In addition he is survived by a multitude of nieces, nephews, grand nieces and grand nephews and other members of the Battinelli and Ritchie family.

Family and friends may call at the Nicholas F. Cognetta Funeral Home & Crematory, 104 Myrtle Avenue, Stamford, CT on Tuesday March 11, 2014 from 4:00 to 8:00 PM. A funeral procession will leave the funeral home on Wednesday March 12, 2014 at 9:15 AM and proceed to St. Maurice Parish, 358 Glenbrook Rd, Stamford for a Mass of Christian Burial to be celebrated at 10:00 AM. Interment will follow at Spring Grove Cemetery, Darien.
