Roseanne George Obituary

ROSEANNE DILORENZO GEORGE, 90, passed away on April 13, 2011 surrounded by loving family and friends. Born January 1 ,1921 in New York City to the late Pasquale and Lorita diLorenzo, Roseanne was a resident of Stamford, Connecticut for the last 53 years. She is survived by her beloved husband, the architect Frank D. George and her daughter Claudia F. George as well as her two sisters Anne DePola (husband Mario) and Italia deHopkins. Roseanne will be much missed by her three grandchildren Daniel C. George, Elijah N. George and Hanna R. Segnitz. In addition, she leaves behind her adored Mascialino family in Brecia, Italy. She was predeceased by her son David L. George. Roseanne leaves behind many loving nieces and a nephew, true friends, and countless admirers of her art including the Argos Art Casting Foundry in Brewster, New York. Although a life long painter, Roseanne was primarily an acknowledged sculptor, creating works in many media including bronze and welded steel. Her piece The Bedford Oak was awarded the Best in Show Prize at the 1997 New Canaan Society of the Arts Spectrum Exhibition. Exhibit judge Nancy Hall Duncan noted of the Bedford Oak, "the work is imbued with a feeling of serenity, joy, and well being." Roseanne studied at the Art Students League of New York City. In Stamford, she had a long relationship with the Stamford Museum and Nature Center where she took classes, taught classes and exhibited her work. A permanently installed welded sculpture is in the Stamford Roxbury School library. Other sculptures are in numerous public and private collections in the U.S. and Europe. At a recent show, a visiting judge observed that he had never before seen so much warmth emanating from cold steel. In addition to creating her own art and teaching, Roseanne was active in the Silvermine Guild Art Center and the NLAPW Connecticut Pioneer Branch. Roseanne will always be remembered for her kindness, intelligence, talent and sense of humor. The beauty she created and left for us shall continue to serve as an inspiration to all who knew her. In lieu of flowers, a donation may be made in loving memory of Roseanne to The Unitarian Church in Westport 10 Lyons Plains Road Westport, CT 06880 or the Stamford Museum and Nature Center 39 Scofieldtown Road Stamford, CT 06903.

Roseanne George inspired kindness and joy among all who knew her. I knew Roseanne through the Unitarian Universlist Society in Stamford where I knew her work through the chalice she had donated to the church. Ann Yarmal

Roseanne's artistic contributions grace our sanctuary at the Unitarian Universalist Society on Forest Street in Stamford. The flaming chalice, banners and pulpit recall for us her talent and warm personality.
