Fannie Ungemack Obituary

Ungemack, Fannie
Ungemack, Fannie Petroccia, age 91, of Stony Creek, CT, passed away peacefully at home on November 1, 2016 surrounded by her loving family. Fannie was the beloved wife of Robert E. Ungemack for 67 years. She was the daughter of John and Lottie Petroccia, born in Old Brookville, Long Island on June 12, 1925, moving to Darien, CT at age one where she and Robert raised their own family. A graduate of the Parsons School of Design in New York, Fannie became a landscape designer working first in her family's business, The Gardener's Center in Darien, and then partnering with her husband in Robert E. Ungemack Landscaping Associates. In addition to creating hundreds of landscape designs for clients in Fairfield County and beyond, Fannie and Robert designed and built homes for their family, including their home in Darien and a unique octagon-shaped summer home on Governors Island in the Thimble Islands. Fannie's love of family, art, gardening, the seashore, and independent thinking live on in her four children: Jane Ungemack of Simsbury, CT, Sara McCool of Oxford, CT, Lisl Hodgdon of Stony Creek, and Curt Ungemack of Shelton, CT, as well as her grandchildren Corrie, Brie, Emily, Christopher, Merisa, Nicole and Eliza and three great grandchildren. A private ceremony and burial will be held by her family in Stony Creek.
