Athanasios "Zakardis" Koutinas, 72, passed away at Stamford Hospital on Tuesday August 27, 2013 with his loving family by his side. Athanasios was born in Argiroupolis, Greece on October 8, 1940 to the late Ioannis and Katerina Tsitsias Koutinas.
Athanasios was a self-employed restaurateur owning Zakardis Restaurant.
Athanasios is survived by his loving wife Ioanna Koutinas, his sons; Ioannis Koutinas and his wife Jennifer and Eleftherios Koutinas, his grandchildren; Thomas and Kelly Koutinas, all of Stamford, his sister Eleni Koutinas of Greece, brother Eleftherios Koutinas and his wife Flitisa, his nieces; Katerina, Maria, Joanna and Vaso, as well as his first cousin Bob Giangos and his wife Irene; and their children Teddy and Anthony, all of Stamford.
Besides his parents, Athanasios is predeceased by his sister Marika Kirkinis and his brother Zisis Koutinas.
A funeral procession will leave the Nicholas F. Cognetta Funeral Home & Crematory, 104 Myrtle Avenue, Stamford at 9:10AM on Saturday August 31, 2013 and proceed to Annunciation Greek Orthodox Church, 1230 Newfield Avenue, Stamford for a funeral service at 10:00AM. Interment will follow at Woodland Cemetery, Woodland Place, Stamford. Family and friends may call at the funeral home on Friday August 30, 2013 from 4:00 to 8:00PM, with a Trisagion Service to be held at 7:30PM.
