Imbrogno, Carmela
Carmela Imbrogno, 91, of Stamford passed away peacefully surrounded by her loving family on Friday, December 21, 2012. Carmela was born in Rose, Italy on July 4, 1921 to the late Oronzio and Rosa Siciliano-Cava. She married the love of her life, Antonio Imbrogno on January 6, 1941. She moved to Argentina in 1950, and made her journey to the United States where she became a proud citizen. She was a homemaker, but also worked as a produce clerk at Bongiorno Supermarket for 15 years. Besides her parents, Carmela was predeceased by her loving husband Antonio, her beloved daughter Estela and her son in law Hector Martin, her great-granddaughter's Jacklynn and Julianna, as well as her brothers and sisters; Lorenzo, Rosaria, Francesco, Angelina, and Domenico. Carmela "Nonna" was the devoted matriarch of a warm and loving family. She lived a full life and is survived by her three daughters; Antonietta "Nina" Restrepo and her husband Leonel, Adelina "Lilly" Rulli and her husband Roberto, and Graciela "Grace" Mandarino and her husband Dino, all of Stamford. As well as several grandchildren; Ariel Acedo, Myrian DiScala, Gladys Ganchou, Alejandra Mercado, Daniel Acedo, Christina Mandarino, Michael Mandarino and Corina Restrepo. And her great-grandchildren; Brian, Alexia, Sonya, Jaxon, Sophia, Marcos, Nicholas, Francisco, Isabella and Charlotte. Carmela's joy was being surrounded by her family and making sure everyone was together and happy. Family and friends trusted her words of wisdom, which were always respected and loved. Everyone looked to her for her special blessings and her guidance. She took joy in long visits and giving her advice. She had a passion for gardening and cooking her traditional family recipes, and loved her little canine companion Daisy. Whatever she did, she did unconditionally, whether it was showing her hospitality or sharing her love. She was a woman made of steel, who overcame every obstacle in her path. Her strength was astounding and unmatched. Though small in stature, she was a force to be reckoned with. Her radiant smile embraced everyone she met and her feisty independence was most important to her. Carmela is irreplaceable and will live forever in the hearts and memories of her family and friends. "Nonna" lived a legacy for all. Family and friends may call at the Nicholas F. Cognetta Funeral Home & Crematory, 104 Myrtle Ave.,Stamford, CT on Sunday December 23, 2012 from 3:00-7:00PM.
