Berkowitz, Elaine Neese.

Elaine Neese Berkowitz, 53, who is remembered for her charm, beauty and tremendously caring nature, passed away May 23 after a long battle with cancer.
She was born in Brazil, Indiana, on August 19, 1959, and raised on a farm in Poland, Indiana, where she attended a two-room schoolhouse and graduated from Brazil High School in 1977. After receiving her Bachelor's and Master's degrees from Ball State University, the same school that David Letterman attended, she moved to New York City and then Stamford, where she lived for the past 15 years.
She worked for a time as a manager for noted psychiatrist and best-selling author Ari Kiev at his Social Psychiatry Research Institute in Manhattan and later was a manager at the J. Jill women's clothing store at the Stamford Town Center, where she was adored for her ability to transform the appearance of shoppers.
She is survived by her loving husband of 14 years, Harry Berkowitz, who is an editor at Bottom Line Publications in Stamford, and her adoring son, Sam, 13, an honor roll student at Scofield Magnet Middle School, her parents, Bill and Juanita Neese of Poland, Indiana, her sister Janet (and Janet's husband Mike) Van Nevel of Alexandria, Kentucky, and brother Gary (and his wife Michele) Neese of Poland, Indiana.
A service will be held at the First Presbyterian Church, 1101 Bedford, Street, Stamford, on Tuesday, May 28, 2013, at 10:00 AM. A memorial service will be held in Poland, Indiana, at a later date. The Nicholas F. Cognetta Funeral Home & Crematory, 104 Myrtle Avenue is honored to assist the Berkowitz family with the arrangements.
In lieu of flowers, the family asks that donations be made to the Carl & Dorothy Bennett Cancer Center, 30 Shelburne Road, Stamford, CT 06902.
