Talamelli, Florence
Florence Papa Talamelli, age 83, of Stamford, CT, formerly of North Haven and Northford, died peacefully on Friday, August 31, 2012 after a short illness. Florence was born in New Haven on February 21, 1929 to the late Charles J. and Phyllis Valentino Papa. She was predeceased by her husband of 44 years, Harry R. Talamelli, and siblings Michael A. Papa, Sadie Finoia, and Angelina Adinolfi.
Florence is survived by her children, Sharon Sabia and her husband Michael of Stamford, CT and Richard Talamelli and his wife Jean of Trumbull, CT. She was a beloved grandmother to Steven Sabia, Nicholas Talamelli, and Kathryn Talamelli and will be deeply missed by Ray, Paulette, Raymond, David, and Zachary Talamelli and many nieces and nephews.
Florence grew up in North Haven, surrounded by a community of family and friends. She graduated from Lyman Hall High School (Class of 1947) and married Harry in 1949. She and Harry were not only partners in life, but also in business. They worked together at L.G. Defelice Company, for many years, and then operated the F.P. Ryan Heavy Hauling Corp. in North Haven until their retirements.
After retirement, Florence volunteered her services at St. Monica's Church and the Stanley T. Williams School in Northford. Always the bargain hunter, Florence shopped often and wisely. She was always beautifully dressed and her home reflected her good taste.
Florence was a gentle, quiet, and kind lady who gracefully weathered life's many challenges. She cared deeply for her family and will be remembered and loved by those who knew her.
The family would like to extend their thanks to Mom's "family" at Sunrise Senior Living, to nurse Julie and the staff from Masonicare Home Health & Hospice and to the nurses and staff at Regency Heights and Stamford Hospital for their compassionate care.
The Talamelli and Sabia families welcome all friends and relatives on September 4th from 4-8 p.m. at the Lacerenza Funeral Home & Cremation Services, 8 Schuyler Avenue, Stamford, CT. A Mass of Christian burial will be celebrated on September 5th at 10:30 a.m. at The Church of the Holy Spirit, 403 Scofieldtown Road, Stamford, CT. Interment will be private.
