Strutt, Gary W.
Gary Wayne Strutt passed away peacefully in Stamford Hospital with his wife, Sandra, by his side on Monday, October 28, 2013. Gary will be remembered as a loving, outgoing, always ready to help husband, brother-in-law, brother, boss, uncle and great uncle. Gary grew up on the Niantic River, and throughout his life loved the water, boating and the Long Island Sound. He graduated from Waterford High School and attended Mitchell College. He served in the US Army as a Sargent. He was a member of Brewers Yacht Club, Ponus Yacht Club and Halloween Yacht Club, and spent many enjoyable hours on Long Island Sound in his boat, Bijou II. Gary worked for MTA Metro-North Commuter Railroad for 33 years. He started his career as a machinist at the Cos Cob Power Plant. He was promoted to the position of foreman and supervised the Stamford Heavy Repair Shop. Under his supervision, the shop repaired and returned to service the highest number of cars (21) in a year. He ultimately became Foreman General and retired in 2007. Gary was a member of Transportation Communications Union for 22 years and received an Recognition Award from the American Railway & Airway Supervisory Association of the Transportation Communications International Union for exceptional effort, commitment, leadership and solidarity. He also received the Metro-North Railroad Maintenance of Equipment Department Certificate of Merit in recognition of being 20 years injury free He is survived by his wife of 35 years; Sandra Corbo Strutt, Brother-in-law; Donald R, Corbo, Sister; Sandra Welles, Nieces; Sherry Turner and Wendy DeBarrows, Great Niece; Kaitlyn Turner, Great Nephew; Stephen Turner, Cousins; Charles and Judy Strutt, George and Phyllis Strutt, Warren and Patty Strutt and Holly Strutt. He was predeceased by his mother and father, Mary Burrows Strutt and Charles Strutt. Gary's family will receive family and friends on Friday, November 1st from 4 p.m. to 8 p.m. at Bosak Funeral Home, 453 Shippan Avenue in Stamford, CT. A Mass of Christian Burial will be celebrated Saturday, November 2nd at 10am at Sacred Heart Church, 37 Schuyler Avenue, in Stamford, CT. Interment will immediately follow at St. John R.C. Cemetery, Darien, CT. In lieu of flowers, donations may be made in memory of Gary Wayne Strutt to: The Lustgarten Foundation for Pancreatic Cancer, 1111 Stewart Avenue, Bethpage, NY 11714 or www.lustgarten.org.
