Joseph P. Strazza, 81, of Stamford, passed away peacefully on Monday December 24, 2012 with his manager by his side. Joseph was born 0n March 18, 1931 in Greenwich, CT to the late Joseph and Carmella Genise-Strazza. Joseph was a resident of Greenwich for seventy years before moving to Stamford. Joseph served in the United States Army during the Korean War and was owner/operator of his own refuse company and a former employee at the Putnam Park Apartments.
Joseph is survived by his son Steven Strazza of Greenwich, his daughter Lori Strazza of Arizona, a sister Pat Vanech of Stamford and a grandson Steven Strazza of Greenwich. He is also survived by his former wife, Rachael Strazza of New York, three nieces; Dawn Bivona and her husband Gary of Stamford, Donna Coviello and her husband Mike of Ridgefield, CT and Debbie Lehaney and her husband John of Ridgefield, CT, one nephew, Jeff Vanech as well as several other nieces and nephews and great nieces and nephews. Besides his parents, Joseph is predeceased by three sisters; Rose Pagano, Angie Ciccone and Kitty Iverson and two brothers; Thomas and Rocco Strazza. Family and friends may call at the Nicholas F. Cognetta Funeral Home & Crematory, 104 Myrtle Ave. Stamford, CT on Friday December 28, 2012 from 5:00PM to 8:00PM. A funeral procession will leave the funeral home at 9:10AM on Saturday December 29, 2012 for a Mass of Christian Burial to be celebrated at 10:00AM at St. Roch Parish, 10 St. Roch Ave., Greenwich, CT. Inurnment will take place at St. Mary's Cemetery in Greenwich at a later date. In lieu of flowers the family requests that donations be made in Joseph's name to the Wounded Warrior Project PO BOX 758517 Topeka, KS 66675.
