Krist Velaj, 46, resident of Stamford, passed away unexpectedly on Thursday, February 28, 2013. He was born in Kosovo on November 27, 1966 to the late Simon and Zoja (Uka) Velaj. In 1998 Krist left his native land to pursue greater opportunities for him and his family in the United States. Along the way of achieving all he set out to do, he was determined to help others seek and achieve their goals. There was nothing Krist loved doing more than being outdoors and spending time with his two sons. He enjoyed everything; cars, motorcycles, boats, ATV's, anything involving a thrill. He belonged to the Albanian Roman Catholic Church Our Lady of Shkodra where he, his wife and kids attended on Sundays. Krist was a loving man who spent most of his time and effort helping those less fortunate in his homeland. He will forever be remembered for his big smile, and even bigger heart. Krist is survived by his beloved wife, Zoje Prenka Velaj, and his two sons, Kened and Kastriot Velaj, both of Stamford. He's also survived by four brothers, Gjergj and Pjeter Velaj, of Switzerland, and Mark and Mhill Velaj, of Stamford, his four sisters, Pashke Radi, of Croatia, and Gjyste Duhanaj, Lushe Gjuraj, and Vere Dushi, of Stamford, an uncle, Simon Uka, of Montenegro, and many nieces, nephews and friends. The Velaj family will receive friends and family on Wednesday, March 6th from 4 p.m. to 8 p.m. at Bosak Funeral Home, 453 Shippan Avenue in Stamford, CT. A Mass of Christian Burial will be held on Thursday, March 7th at 11 a.m. at Our Lady of Shkodra Albanian R.C. Church, 361 W. Hartsdale Avenue, in Hartsdale, NY. Fr. Peter A. Popaj will officiate the service. Interment will immediately follow mass at Gate of Heaven Cemetery in Hawthorne, NY.
