Melania Lozyniak, 92, of Stamford, passed away peacefully on Sunday, February 23, 2014 with her loving family by her side. Melania was born January 2, 1922 in Poland to the late Szymon and Maria Wasiczko Pyrtej. Besides her parents, Melania is predeceased by her loving husband of fifty-five years, Dymitr Lozyniak and her brother, Petro Pyrtej. Melania is survived by her three daughters, Mary Howansky of Wilton, Julie Wheeler of Milford, and Stella Langer of Ridgefield, her two sons, Peter Lozyniak of Ridgefield and Steve Lozyniak of South Windsor, and her sister Anna Lozyniak of Poland. She will also be greatly missed by her nine grandchildren and six great-grandchildren.
Melania was a member of St. Vladimir's Ukrainian Catholic Church. She was also a resident of the Wormser Congregate Senior Housing for the past seven years.
A funeral procession will leave the Nicholas F. Cognetta Funeral Home & Crematory, 104 Myrtle Avenue, Stamford, CT on Friday February 28, 2014 at 11:30AM and proceed to Cathedral of St. Vladimir's Ukrainian Catholic Church, 24 Wenzel Terrace, Stamford, CT for a Mass of Christian Burial to be celebrated at 12:00 noon. Interment will follow at Woodland Cemetery, Woodland Place, Stamford. Family and friends may call at the funeral home on Thursday, February 27, 2014 from 4:00 to 8:00PM, with a Panahyda Service to take place at 7:00PM.
Memorial contributions may be made in Melania's name to the National Library Service for the Blind and Physically Handicapped, Attn. Office of the Director, 1291 Taylor Street, Washington D.C. 20542.
