Skelly, Robert M.
Robert M. Skelly, formerly of Stamford, CT, passed away on Monday, August 12, 2013 after a brief illness. He was born in Albany, NY to the late John and Gertrude (Welch) Skelly. Robert grew up in Albany, where he attended Vincentian Institute, and earned a Bachelor of Science in Business Administration from Siena College. He served in the United States Navy from 1946 to 1947. He was an executive for Texaco Oil Company for thirty-five years, and also worked for Prudential Relocation Services in Shelton, CT. Robert was a selfless husband, father, grandfather, friend, and colleague. He relished a competitive round of golf, and enjoyed evenings of bridge with close friends. He treasured family vacations in Ocean City, NJ, highlighted by crabbing excursions with his grandchildren. Robert was predeceased by his beloved wife of fifty-nine years, Marcia Ann Skelly. He is survived by his five children: Robert J. Skelly (and Pam) of Madison, CT; Elizabeth Haag of Brightwaters, NY; Joan Curto (and David) of Naperville, IL; Joseph Morrison Skelly of Stamford, CT; and Marcy Patierno (and Michael) of Wappingers Falls, NY. He is also survived by eleven grandchildren: Brian (and Kristin), Patrick (and his fiancé, Jacky), and Beth Skelly; Mike, Dave, and Matt Curto; Lauren and Brendan Haag; and Ally, Katie, and Michael Patierno. In addition to his parents, Robert is preceded in death by his brother, Jack, and his sisters, Eileen Hart and Patricia Newell. Robert will be deeply missed by his loved ones, and all those who had the pleasure of knowing him. Robert's family welcomes friends and relatives to celebrate a Mass of Christian Burial on Friday, August 16h at 11:00 a.m. at Saint Cecilia Parish, 1184 Newfield Avenue, in Stamford. Robert will be interred alongside his wife, Marcia, at Saratoga National Cemetery in Saratoga, NY. In lieu of flowers, friends are invited to make a contribution in memory of Robert M. Skelly, Siena College, Development and External Affairs Office, 515 Loudon Road, Loudonville, NY, 12211.
