Louis, Zina
Zina Louis affectionately known as "Gran Jo", "Mami," and Madame Jo" left for eternal rest on January 5, 2013 at the age of 97 years old in Stamford, CT. A devoted mother, loving grandmother and an adoring great-grandmother, Zina was born on December 27, 1915, in Leogane, Haiti to the late Azina Romage and Louisdorme Louis. In 1975, Zina immigrated to the United States from Haiti and in 1976 moved to Stamford, CT in 1978 to be with her son Elie, also deceased, and remained till her final days. Zina was a fabulous homemaker; cooking and baking were her passion. She loved people and in return friends and family loved her too. She took care of countless children throughout her years and opened her doors and home to many family members. A long time member of the French Speaking Baptist Church in Stamford; Zina was a devoted woman whose faith was deeply rooted in God. You would always find her listening to her beloved radio station for news and entertainment from her native country Haiti or having an afternoon conversation with countless friends and neighbors. Zina leaves behind her beloved nine children; Josephine Lyra, Pierrot Joseph (Delphine), Fritz Joseph (Jacqueline), Jacques Cailleau (Mirielle), Michel Joseph (Gisele), Marie Ange Guillaume, Marlene Joseph, Edith Jocelyn, and Jocelyne Joseph. She also leaves a legacy of thirty-one grandchildren and thirty-two great-grand children, countless nieces, nephew and friends and loved ones of all ages. She is preceded by her husband Mompelier Joseph, son Elie Joseph and grandsons Moses M. Joseph and Elie Joseph. Zina's passing has left a void in our family that nothing or no one can fill. She's God very special angel. Today we rejoice in the knowledge that she has passed the barrier of time as we know it and is forever at home with the Savior she faithfully served for nearly 97 years and 9 days. We love you Grandma! Wake and calling hours will be held Friday, January 11, 2013 from 6 to 9 p.m. at French Baptist Church on 28 Adams Ave, Stamford, CT. Funeral will follow at 9 a.m. Saturday, January 12, 2013 at the French Speaking Baptist Church in Stamford. Burial will follow at St. John Cemetery, Darien, CT. The Nicholas F. Cognetta Funeral Home & Crematory is honored to assist the Louis family with the arrangements.
