Virginia "Ginny"Cohan Donoghue, 83, of Stamford, passed away peacefully surrounded by her loving family, on Thursday, February 6, 2014 at Stamford Hospital. She was born in New York City on November 18, 1930 to the late Edward J. and Bernice Sullivan Cohan.
Ginny was a founding parishioner of Church of the Holy Spirit. She had been very active in the Holy Spirit Women's Guild, Meals on Wheels and many other causes. Ginny was also a weekly attendant of noon masses at St. John's.
Ginny was the ultimate fan as a wife, mother, grandmother and friend. Her warmth and generous spirit was a gift to all.
She is survived by her loving daughters, Kathleen Addazio and her husband Stephen of Needham, MA, Mary Ann Stone and her husband Robert of Wilton, three loving sons, Thomas F. Donoghue, III and his wife Wendy of Avondale, RI, Michael E. Donoghue and his wife Sheila of Sarasota, FL, Edward "EJ" Donoghue and his wife Samantha of Stamford , three brothers, Martin Cohan of New Rochelle, NY, Edward J. Cohan and his wife Marie of Danbury, Peter Cohan and his wife Elyse of FL; eleven grandchildren, Nicole, Jessica and Louie Addazio, Michael and Matthew Stone, Lily and Liam Donoghue, Trey and Emmett Donoghue, Schuyler Havens and Brooke Foote.
Besides her parents, Virginia was predeceased by her loving husband Thomas F. Donoghue, Jr., a sister Mary Ann Cohan and two brothers, John and Michael Cohan.
A funeral procession will be leaving The Nicholas F. Cognetta Funeral Home & Crematory, 104 Myrtle Avenue, Stamford on Tuesday, February 11, 2014 at 9:40 AM for a Mass of Christian Burial to be celebrated at 10:30 AM at the Church of the Holy Spirit, 403 Scofieldtown Road, Stamford.Interment will follow at Queen of Peace Cemetery, Rockrimmon Road, Stamford. Family and friends may call at the funeral home on Monday, February 10, 2014 from 4:00-8:00 PM.
