Doris Martin, a long time resident of Stamford, passed away on Thursday, April 24, 2014. Doris was born September 12, 1924 in Stamford. She was the daughter of the late Martin and Elise Cash. She was a 1942 graduate of Darien High School. For 18 years, Doris was an accounts payable supervisor at Pitney Bowes, where she met her husband, Harold Martin, who passed away in 2002.
Doris was an active member of Zion Lutheran Church, where she was a Sunday school teacher, a member of the junior choir, a member of the altar guild, an usher, an officer of the Ruth Fellowship organization and secretary of the OWLS organization. She was also the treasurer of Noah's Ark Nursery School until her death.
She volunteered for Meals on Wheels, the American Cancer Society, and New Covenant House Soup Kitchen, and was a Cub Scouts den mother.
Doris is survived by her son John Martin of Stamford, his wife Maureen Tracy, her grandsons Christopher and Andrew, and many who considered her to be a second mom.
Doris was predeceased by her sisters Elise Long and Evelyn Cash, and her brother Martin Cash. She is survived by her sister Rose Spodnick of New Milford.
Doris had a stack of "Be Kinder Than Necessary" stickers on her kitchen table to give to visitors, and following that lesson would be a great way to honor her.

Friends are invited to greet the family at Leo P. Gallagher Funeral Home, 2900 Summer Street, Stamford, from 2:00 to 7:00 on Saturday. A funeral service will be held at Zion Lutheran Church, 132 Glenbrook Road, Stamford at 1:00 PM on Sunday. Burial will follow at Fairfield Memorial Park in Stamford.
