Jeanette Fishkow, age 80 of Stamford, CT died on Tuesday, May 13th.
Jeanette was born in Greenwich CT to Harry and Celia Resnick and is survived by her older brother, Daniel Resnick. She attended public schools in Greenwich and went on to study at Skidmore College. Shortly after marrying Harold Fishkow, the couple moved to Stamford in 1956 where she resided for the remainder of her life. A lover of books and learning, she was a librarian in the Stamford Public Schools and later worked at Xerox as a law librarian for over 10 years. She was a longtime volunteer in Hadassah and at the Stamford Historical Society.
Jeanette's greatest joy and focus was her family. A devoted wife to Harold, who she was married to for nearly 61 years, the couple enjoyed camping and traveling. Her proudest achievements were her children, Amy Fishkow Benjamin, Michael Fishkow, James Benjamin, Leslie Stein and grandchildren, Rachel Benjamin, Claire Fishkow, Sarah Benjamin and Jake Fishkow. She loved planning vacations for the entire family, which created lasting memories and further strengthened family relationships.
Jeanette could always be seen with either a crossword or sudoku puzzle, brain teaser or book in hand. She had a life-long love of learning, evidenced by her participation in Ulpan and Melton classes. Anyone who knew her knew she was definitely a Scrabble Champ! She loved playing Mah Jong with her "girls" and it was as much about laughing as it was about the tiles. Come spring and summer, she would enthusiastically root for her Yankees!
Jeanette was caring, generous and selfless and had a way of connecting with people to form lasting friendships. Even when she was not feeling well, she continued to send cheery notes to friends and family via snail or email or with a quick check-in call. Her warm smile and encouraging words will be sorely missed. To leave an online condolence please visit www.leopgallagherstamford.com
