Virginia M. Tynes, 91, formerly of Stamford passed away peacefully surrounded by her loving family on Saturday, June 7, 2014 at St. Camillus Nursing Facility in Milwaukee, WI. Virginia, a lifelong resident of Stamford, CT, was born on January 5, 1923 to the late John and May Moore Lee.
Virginia married her now deceased high school sweetheart and U.S. Army veteran, Edward A. Tynes Sr., also a lifelong resident of Stamford, on August 21, 1942. In her early years, Virginia attended St. John's School and Stamford High School. As a young woman, Virginia worked as a telephone operator at SNET and prepared and served lunches at General Signal Corp. in Stamford. Some years later, she and her husband owned and successfully operated a restaurant in Stamford. With pride, Virginia was an active parishioner and member of the Rosary Society at St. Mary's Church in Stamford, where she grew spiritually and communally. After the death of her husband, Virginia traveled to Saudi Arabia, where she became an active member of the expat community. She was fortunate to spend her final years surrounded by a loving family in Wisconsin.
Virginia is survived by her four children, her son Edward A. Tynes Jr., of Stamford, her son Thomas Tynes and his wife Susan and their two daughters, Lauren and Kelsey from Mukwonago, WI., her daughter Lee Cordon and her husband Michael and their four daughters, Cathy Cordon, Kelly Cordon, Eileen Sanders, and Maureen Lingford, also from WI., and her daughter Lynn Padgett and her two daughters, Tracy Kowalski and Dawn Mudry from Seymour CT. In addition to her children and grandchildren, Virginia was blessed with twelve great grandchildren and one great great granddaughter.
A funeral procession will leave the Nicholas F. Cognetta Funeral Home & Crematory, 104 Myrtle Avenue, Stamford, CT on Saturday June 14, 2014 at 9:20AM and proceed to St. Mary's RC Church, 566 Elm Street, Stamford, CT, for a Mass of Christian Burial to be celebrated at 10:00AM. Interment will follow at St. John's Cemetery, Darien. Family and friends may call at the funeral home on Friday June 13, 2014 from 4:00 to 8:00PM.
Virginia's family will be forever grateful for the compassionate care she received from the entire staff of the skilled nursing facility where she spent the final two years of her life sharing her faith with the residents, staff and clergy. Virginia was blessed with a long and adventurous life. Her selfless devotion to her husband and her children gained her the respect and admiration from everyone who was privileged to know her. God bless her!
