Hugh F. Winters, Jr., 53, of Stamford, passed away peacefully on June 10, 2014 at the Stamford Hospital with his loving wife and family by his side. Hugh was born in Stamford on June 29, 1960 to the late Hugh and Lena (Giordano) Winters, Sr.
Hugh is survived by his wife Cheryl (Gunzy) Winters of Stamford, his siblings; Rebecca (Rick) Ottavi of Wilton, Maureen (Kenneth) Malizia of New Canaan, Jayne (Gerard) Vasco of New Canaan, and Abigail (Frank) DiCostanzo of Wilton as well as Christopher Winters of New Canaan. Several aunts, uncles, nieces, nephews and cousins also survive.
Hugh was a self-employed painter with a great sense of humor and enjoyed family gatherings cherishing being in the company of his nieces and nephews. He loved animals and his cats Duke and J.J. will miss him dearly.
He took pleasure in an abundance of pastimes including, concerts, music, old movies (notably those starring John Wayne) trying new restaurants, fishing, traveling yearly to Atlantic City with his dear wife, long rides in his Challenger, cooking and being a History buff.
An avid sports fan, he liked The Rangers, Mets, Jets and NASCAR. Sports news/talk was essential with "Mike & Mike" being his favorite.
Hugh's wife would like to thank the Stamford Hospital staff that cared for her husband in his final days.
Family and friends may call at the Nicholas F. Cognetta Funeral Home & Crematory, 104 Myrtle Avenue, Stamford, CT on Saturday June 14, 2014 from 3:00 to 6:00PM, with a prayer service to take place at 6:00PM. Interment will be private.
