James Iorio Obituary

JAMES G. (CHIEF) IORIO, 89 of Greenwich, passed away peacefully at home Saturday, July 11, 2009. Born in Brooklyn, N.Y., March 30, 1920, he was the son of the late Otino and Rose Lobretta Iorio. James served as a journalist in the Army and graduated from New York University with a degree in education. He was a businessman for many years and was involved in various projects. James was a devoted Eucharistic Minister at St. Michael's Church in Greenwich, where he served last Father's Day, the day before entering the hospital. James is survived by his five children, James P. Iorio (Diana Nguyen), Rosemarie Iorio, Charles Iorio, Tino Iorio (Elisabeth), and Joanne Iorio; grandchildren, James George Iorio II (Jay), David, Markus, Josephine, Andrea Iorio, T.J. Goforth, Andrew, Daniel Iorio and Andrew Do; great-grandchildren, James George III (JJ), Thomas Charles (Tommy) Iorio, Michelle and Anthony Rodriguez. In addition to his parents, he was predeceased by his first wife, Josephine of 27 years; his second wife, Elisabeth of eight years; brothers, Anthony, Otino, and John; and his sister Phyllis. Friends may call in the Nicholas F. Cognetta Funeral Home & Crematory, 104 Myrtle Avenue, Stamford, Tuesday, July 14 from 4 to 8 p.m. A Mass of Christian Burial will be celebrated at St. Michael's Roman Catholic Church, 469 North Street, Greenwich, Wednesday, July 15 at 11 a.m., with the Rev. Thomas Thorne officiating. Entombment will follow at St. Mary's Roman Catholic Cemetery, North Street, Greenwich. The family would like to thank his compassionate caregiver, Svetlana Gololob. They would also like to thank Dr. Pugliese and the many doctors from the Glenville Medical Group and the staff of Greenwich Hospital for their kindness and care. The family requests that donations be made to the American Heart Association, 5 Brookside Drive, Wallingford, CT 06492. Condolences may be expressed online at www.cognetta.com.
