Barnett, Eileen M.
The Guest Book is expired.
On November 8, 2012, Eileen Marie (O'Loughlin) Barnett passed away in Danbury, CT at the end of a long and rich life. Born February 3, 1926, in Lowell, MA to Terence and Vera (McCosker) O'Loughlin, Eileen was one of 6 children: Mary Palmer (Thomas), Francis O'Loughlin (Carole), Barbara Winward (John), Jane Riley (Walter), and Joan Pelczar (Stanley), and she is survived by a large and loving family. Eileen was married for almost sixty years to George Daniel Barnett (who passed away in 2008), and together they raised four children: Kathy Foote (Robert), George Barnett (Lynn), Terence Barnett (Mary Ellen), and Timothy Barnett (Scott). She is also survived by eight grandchildren: Adam and Sarah Foote; Clara and George J. Barnett; Griffin, Spencer, and Katherine Barnett; and Tyler Barnett Steinkamp. A New Englander all of her life, Eileen grew up in Lowell, MA before moving to Stamford, CT where she lived with her family for many years. She worked as an accounts clerk and secretary but spent most of her time raising her children and creating a family and home that would stand the test of time. On retirement, she and George lived in Kennebunk, ME and Jupiter, FL with frequent trips to visit family and friends throughout New England and the Florida Coast. Eileen was driven by a sense of duty and love, and much of her time was spent sacrificing for others. She and George worked hard, and spent very little on themselves, so that their children could have better lives than they did. Upon retirement, Eileen also volunteered for various organizations, including the West Palm Beach school system (where she tutored English language learners) and the AARP (where she helped seniors and others complete their tax returns for many years). She was someone who cared about people and politics, and she left to her children and grandchildren a strong legacy of compassion and engagement. Visiting hours will be on Monday, Nov. 12 from 4-7 pm at Leo P. Gallagher & Son Funeral Home (2900 Summer St., Stamford, CT). Funeral services will be Tuesday, 10 am, at St. Gabriel's Church (914 Newfield Ave., Stamford, CT) with a luncheon reception afterward. In lieu of flowers, donations may be made to the Arthritis National Research Foundation (200 Oceangate, Suite 830, Long Beach, CA 90802; http://curearthritis.org/). Words of comfort and sympathy may be sent to the family at www.leopgallagherstamford.com
