Julia Catherine Serafin Baran, 91, passed away peacefully at her home on Sunday, March 24, 2013. She was born on December 17, 1921 to the late Frances (Romsky) and Anthony Serafin. Born and raised in Stamford, Julia graduated from Stamford High School and Short's Secretarial School. She was married to her beloved husband, Adolph G. Baran, until his passing in 1991. She was employed by Conde Nast Publishing, formerly of Greenwich, CT, and also worked at the Pentagon in Washington, DC. She was a proud communicant of Holy Name of Jesus Church and was the financial secretary for both the Holy Name Rosary Society and the parish council, and volunteered countless hours to the church. She was an active member of the Goodwives Quilters and the Holy Name Senior Circle. She is survived by her loving children, George A. Baran, Thomas A. Baran, and wife Celeste Baran, Doris J. Ieva, and husband Theodore Ieva, and Diane F. Page, and grandchildren, Michelle A. Baran, Richard T. Baran, Kristin A. Baran, Stephen J. Page, Lauren K. Page, Meredith N. Page and U.S. Air Force Tech. Sgt. Michael Ieva. She is also survived by her four sisters, Irene Koczeniak, Matilda Jaworski, Adele Gill and Eleanor Rotkewicz. In addition to her parents and husband, Julia was preceded in death by her sister, Genevieve Piorkowski, and her son-in-law, Geoffrey R. Page. The Baran family will receive the condolences of friends and relatives TODAY, Tuesday, March 26th from 5 to 8 p.m. at Bosak Funeral Home, 453 Shippan Avenue in Stamford, CT. A Mass of Christian Burial will be celebrated on Wednesday, March 27th at 11 a.m. at Holy Name of Jesus Church, 305 Washington Blvd., Stamford, CT. The committal service and interment will immediately follow at St. John R.C. Cemetery in Darien. In lieu of flowers the family asks that you consider making a donation in memory of Julia C. Baran to the Holy Name Restoration Fund, 4 Pulaski Street, Stamford, CT 06902. The family has entrusted the funeral arrangements to Bosak Funeral Home, 453 Shippan Avenue, Stamford, CT.
