Stella, Bernardo P.
Bernardo P. Stella, 72, of Stamford, passed peacefully at Yale-New Haven Hospital after a courageous battle with Liver Disease, on Tuesday September 17, 2013 surrounded by his loving family. Bernardo was born in Esperia, Italy on April 18, 1941 and raised in love by his parents; Giovanna Masone Stella and the late Umberto P.G. Stella.
Bernardo was the proud owner of Nando's Beauty Salon in Port Chester, NY for over forty two years. He was a member of the Minturnese Social Club, the American Association of Cosmetology and the St. Mary Nocturnal Adoration Society. Bernardo was also a member of the Stamford Bocce League, an avid gardener and fisherman, and enjoyed spending quality time with his grandchildren.
Bernardo is survived by his loving wife of 48 years; Anna Masone Stella of Stamford, his mother; Giovanna Stella, his daughter; Joanna Genovese and her husband Charles, two sons; Umberto Stella and his wife Mary Ellen and Marc Stella, all of Wilton, two sisters; Maria Pia Ricca and Angela Garzillo and her husband Giovanni, and a brother; Angelo Palmerini and his wife Silvana, all of Italy, as well as eight grandchildren; Lucas, Dylan and Brooke Genovese, Travis, Dante, Christian, Olivia and Brandon Stella.
Besides his father, Bernardo is predeceased by his daughter-in-law Marcia Stella.
A funeral procession will leave the Nicholas F. Cognetta Funeral Home & Crematory, 104 Myrtle Avenue, Stamford, CT on Friday September 20, 2013 at 9:30AM and proceed to St. Mary's RC Church, 566 Elm Street, Stamford, CT for a Mass of Christian Burial to be celebrated at 10:00AM. Family and friends may call at the funeral home on Thursday, September 19, 2013 from 4:00 to 8:00PM. Internment will take place at St. John RC Cemetery, Darien, on Saturday September 21, 2013 at 10:00AM.
In lieu of flowers, the family requests that donations be made to the American Liver Foundation, Connecticut Division, 127 Washington Avenue Basement, New Haven, CT, 06473.
