Karius, Fred L.  
KARIUS, Fred L. Age 53, of Montour Falls and formerly Hector, passed away on May 23, 2015 at SUNY Upstate Medical Center in Syracuse. He was born on October 25, 1961 in Ithaca, NY, the son of Fred D. and Doris Karius. He worked as a former vineyard operator with his father, and later owned and operated Karius Construction. Fred was predeceased by his father. He is survived by his mother, Doris L. Karius of Hector; son, Brandon (Jess) Karius of Lodi; sister, Sherry (Jeff) Mangus of Burdett; brothers, David (Debbie) Karius, Don Karius and Scott (Mary) Karius, all of Hector; and a special friend, Rob Fallon of Lodi. A graveside service will be held at Seneca Union Cemetery in Valois at 11:00am on Tuesday, June 2, 2015. Kelly, Arthur Allen Jr. Arthur Allen Kelly Jr, age 47, of Hammondsport, New York passed away unexpectedly on Saturday, May 23, 2015 at his home. He was born on November 11, 1967, in Middle Township, New Jersey; the son of the late Arthur Allen Kelly Sr. and Alberta Pauline (Hand) Kelly. Art graduated from Middle Township High School, in 1986; he then headed to The Restaurant School at Walnut Hill College. After working at several restaurant and hotels as a Sous Chef, Art became Head Chef for Ron Jaworski's Country Club in Sewell, New Jersey. Thereafter, he traveled the country until he finally landed in Hammondsport. He was a popular chef on Keuka and Seneca Lakes, and was currently working at Union Block Italian Bistro in Hammondsport. One of his proudest accomplishments was when he served as caterer to Senator Hillary Rodham Clinton. Out of the kitchen, he was the right-hand man for his close friend Scott Korzon, doing light construction and odd jobs. Art was an avid golfer and pool player; he also loved fishing and boating on Keuka Lake, and snowmobiling with his friends in Old Forge. Besides his parents, he was predeceased by his brother Albert Kelly, grandmother Viola Hand, and his Aunt Myrna Shurr. He is survived by his Aunt Florence Cossaboon, Uncle Bob Wallace, Uncle Mart (Denise) Shurr, several cousins and many, many dear loving friends. He will be sadly missed by everyone who knew him, but we are all blessed by the many great times we experienced with him. A celebration of Art's life will be held on Saturday, May 30th, from 2:00 - 5:00 p.m. at the Hammondsport American Legion, Route 54, Hammondsport. In lieu of flowers, a scholarship fund is being set up in his name for a graduating senior of the Hammondsport School District pursuing a degree in the Culinary Arts or related field. Kiff, Doris Elaine (Lowery) Age 83 of Elmira, NY. Passed away May 20, 2015 at the Arnot Ogden Medical Center. She was born in Elmira, August 20, 1931 the daughter of the late William and Mary (Adams) Lowery. She is predeceased by her husband of 53 years, John in 2010, along with her sisters: Teresa Mallette, Alice Erway, and Helen Campbell. She is survived by her children: Robert Besanceney of Naples, FL; Marilou Besanceney of Webster, NY; Janette (Don) Zeigler of Horseheads, NY; Pete Kiff of Elmira; grandchildren: Lisa (Mark) Lambert, Andrea (Roy) Schumaker, Sarah (Jason) DeRise, Preston Kiff, Parker Kiff; great-grandchildren: Nicholas Fidurko, Ryan Fidurko, Alexis Lambert, Chloe Webb, Rebecca DeRise, and John DeRise; sisters: Marie Stricker, Carol (Richard) Wade, W. Michael (Kathy) Lowery; brothers in law: Allen Mallette, Harry Erway, Carlton Campbell; very dear and close friend, Mary Frantel; along with several nieces, nephews and her loyal canine companion "Furby". Family and friends are invited to gather at the Olthof Funeral Home, Inc. 1050 Pennsylvania Avenue, Elmira, NY Saturday, May 23, 2015 from 10:00AM to 11:30AM. Funeral services celebrating Doris' beautiful life will be held at the conclusion of the calling hours at 11:30AM. Graveside services will follow in the Park Cemetery, Canton, PA directly following. Doris' life-long passion for culinary services led her to own and operate Lowery's Restaurant in Big Flats and manage Pippins Restaurant in Elmira Heights. Later, she ran the kitchen for the local Meals on Wheels. Her family took the top priority in her life, always putting their needs before her own. In her later years, there was nothing she enjoyed more than spending time with her grandchildren and great grandchildren.
