Cramer, Alan Benjamin

Age 90 of Horseheads, NY passed away Mon. May 26, 2014. He was born on Nov. 28, 1923 in Elmira, NY. Alan was predeceased by his parents, Friend M. Cramer & Lillian (Foss) Cramer; his brothers, Lee, Elwin, Meredith; and his sister, Mabel Wood. He is survived by his loving wife of 68 years, Leah Sperry Cramer, his daughter, Susan Cramer Maizel, and her husband, Richard; his son, Elwin "Bud" Cramer, and his wife, Ina; his son, James Cramer and his wife, Jean; his son, Dana; five grandchildren, Alexia Maizel, Josh Maizel, Megan Cramer Andrews, Jason Cramer, and Warren Cramer, and seven great grandchildren. He was a graduate of Elmira High School. Alan was a US Army Veteran of WWII, in which he served as a Cannoneer with the heavy artillery in the European Theater. He was a master carpenter and a member of the United Brotherhood of Carpenters and Joiners of America for 60 years, and worked with Welliver Construction Co. Alan was a member of the Horseheads Historical Society where he contributed his carpentry skills to the Horseheads Historical Society and Zim Bandstand in Teal Park. He enjoyed his family and friends, and had a great love for the outdoors and camping. Funeral services will be private. Memorials may be made to a charity of donor's choice.
