Carol June Bodine

Carol June Bodine, 85, of Pleasant Garden passed away Friday, October 22, 2010 in the Palliative Care unit at Wesley Long Memorial Hospital. Born May 1, 1925 in Elmira, NY to Louise and Ronald Sechrist, Carol June was married in August 1943 to Eli Bodine. Together, while raising a family in rural Chemung, NY, they built their lives as prominent business owners. While their day-to-day lives revolved around operating one of the largest chicken farms in New York State and the local ice creamery, weekends were dedicated to providing thrills and excitement to auto race fans at their ¼ mile dirt track, Chemung Speedrome. Her love of adventure, spurred by the love of family, took Carol June, along with Eli, on the NASCAR circuit for over a decade traveling from track to track selling souvenirs for sons Geoffrey and Brett. Her passion and dedication continued through their racing careers, and into son Todd's, in the Camping World Truck Series. From practice to qualifying to the final lap, Carol June reveled in her son's accomplishments. Living with daughter Denise for the last 13 years, Carol June enjoyed family activities such as family and friend picnics and vacations to the beach. Times made even more precious to her by enjoying them with her grandchildren and great-grandchildren brought to her life. Carol June would spend free moments at Denise's hair salon in Pleasant Garden. Preceded in death by her parents and husband, Carol June is survived by her brothers, William Stone of Montrose, WV, Duke (Vera) and Darrell Sechrist; and sister, Ronda (Wes) Hall, all of Elmira, NY; children, Denise (Michael) Faucett of Pleasant Garden, NC, Geoffrey (Lori) of Melbourne, FL, Brett (Kathi), and Todd (Janet), both of Mooresville, NC; grandchildren, Kristen (Jay) Lockwood, Geoffrey and Kara Abbott, Matthew, Barry, Ashlyn, Heidi, Alex, Eli, and Kami Bodine; seven great-grandchildren; and several nieces and nephews. Funeral services were held on Tuesday at the Hanes Lineberry Sedgefield Chapel in Greensboro, NC officiated by her nephew, Reverend Randall Stone. Burial followed at Guilford Memorial Park. In lieu of flowers, the family requests that donations be sent to The Western Carolina Chapter, 3800 Shamrock Drive, Charlotte, NC 28215 or 1-800-272-3900 begin_of_the_skype_highlighting              1-800-272-3900      end_of_the_skype_highlighting.
