Maynard, Harold William Jr. "Webb"

Passed away Oct. 21, 2013 after a short battle with cancer at his winter home in Sebastian, Florida. Born on Jan. 27, 1934 he is predeceased by parents, Lena Newkirk & Harold William Maynard Sr.; half-brother, John Maynard; sisters, Barbara Dunn and Georgia Seagren, brothers-in-law, John Dunn and Gary Woodruff. Webb served in the Army from 1955 to 1961. After 27 years of service, he retired as Deputy Chief from the Elmira City Fire Department in 1993. He was the sole owner/operator of Webb's Auto Sales and Service from 1993 through 2011. An avid deer hunter, Webb also loved to scuba dive for many years. He also fulfilled a life-long dream of completing a functional two-man submarine in 1982, utilized for many years thereafter. He leaves behind his wife, Nellie E. Maynard of 56 years; sons, John Maynard and Troy Maynard; daughters, LeeAnn (Raymond) Novakowski and Kelly (Carl) Penziul; grandchildren, Chad Maynard, Raychel Benedict, Shane Austin, Katherine Novakowski, Samantha Novakowski, and Corey Stevens; great grandchildren, Raymond Benedict (better known to his great grandpa as Leroy), and Daren Stevens. He is also survived by brothers, Donald Wager and Hugh Hoff; sisters, Dolores Cleveland and Frances Woodruff; and many nieces and nephews. His family would like to thank Hospice of Sebastian, Florida for their wonderful care in his final days, and his extended Florida family at Whispering Palms for their assistance and friendship. In lieu of flowers please send donations in the memory of Harold Maynard to the VNA Hospice House, 901 37th St. Vero Beach, Florida 32960. Family and friends will be received at Caywood's Funeral Home & Gardens, 1126 Broadway, Southport/Elmira on Sat. Nov. 9, 2013 between the hours of 1-3 and 5-8 p.m. A memorial service will follow at 8:15 p.m. Mr. Maynard will be interred in the Columbarium Wall of Woodlawn National Cemetery where full military honors will be accorded.
