Lloyd Edwin "Monny" Moncrief, age 94, of Painted Post, NY, formerly of Syracuse, died Monday, May 19, 2014, at Absolut Care At Three Rivers in Painted Post. Monny was born on January 22, 1920 in Atlanta, GA to Lloyd and Magnolia (Bourne) Moncrief. He served in the Navy from 1942 until 1945 aboard the USS Dixie, remaining in the reserves until his retirement in 1980 with the rank of Commander. Monny was a graduate of Georgia Tech (electrical engineering). He married Ethel Siver in May 1947 in Collamer, NY. Monny retired as a Program Manager with GE in Syracuse in 1985 after serving the company for 39 years. Monny was very active in the community. He served as President of the CNY chapter of the New York State Society of Professional Engineers (NYSSPE), the GE Engineers Association, the Technology Association of Central New York, and the Onondaga Chapter of the Adirondack Hiking Club. He was a 35 year member of the Cicero Planning Board and was active as a Mason for over 60 years, serving in Masonic Lodge #648 in Syracuse. He was an active member of Andrews United Memorial Methodist Church, serving in varied leadership positions. Monny was an avid bridge player, attaining the rank of Master. In addition, he enjoyed softball, hiking, biking, woodworking, and, in his later years, pool. He is survived by his wife, Ethel; one daughter, Gayle (Van) Bicknell of Painted Post; three granddaughters, Keleigh, Logan, and Hailey Bicknell; niece, Patricia Sly; four nephews, Mark Waite, Theodore Oglesby, Dr. James Oglesby, and John Oglesby; and many great-nieces and nephews. Monny was preceded in death by three sisters. Calling hours will be held on Tuesday, May 27th, from 2 until 5 p.m. at Haughey Funeral Home, Inc., 216 E. First Street in Corning, where funeral services will follow at 5:00 p.m. with Pastor Gary DeHaas officiating. Burial will be in Collamer Cemetery in Collamer, NY on Wednesday, May 28th, at 11:00 a.m. with full Military Honors. Contributions can be made in his name to Corning Christian Academy, 11 Aisne St., Corning NY 14830. Monny's family entrusted his care to Haughey Funeral Home, Inc.
