Wladis, Marian H.

Age 89, of Elmira, passed away peacefully on April 14, 2014 at the Arnot Ogden Medical Center. She was predeceased by her husband, Dr. David Wladis; daughter, Rebecca Wladis; grandson, Marc Rubino; and brother, Jack Hoffman. She is survived by daughters, Beth Wladis (Paul Himmelstein) of New York City, Nancy Lawson (William "Rick" Lawson) of Hickory, NC; and granddaughter, Deborah Rubino, also of New York City. Marian was the daughter of Dr. Eugene and Belle Berman Hoffman and grew up in Orlando, FL. Over the years, she contributed her considerable organizational skills to many Elmira community groups. She was a former president of the Elmira Symphony and Choral Society and was on several boards including the Thursday Morning Musicales and the nursing home that became Woodbrook Assisted Living Residence, Inc. Until recently she was active in Congregation Kol Ami, the Jewish Center and Federation of the Twin Tiers, Meals on Wheels and The Women's Chorale of 171 Cedar. Marian was an accomplished coloratura soprano and sang with the Tri-Cities Opera in the mid-sixties, most notably the role of the Queen of the Night in its production of Mozart's The Magic Flute. The funeral service will be held at Congregation Kol Ami, 1008 West Water St., Elmira, NY 14905 on Thursday, April 17, at 11:00 a.m. Interment will follow in Franklin Street Cemetery. The family will be at home for friends after the funeral and on Thursday evening from 6:30-8:30 p.m. and on Friday from 2-5 p.m. The family gratefully declines flowers and requests that donations in Marian's name be made to the .
