Micknich, Mavis Margaret
Age 90, passed away in the comfort of her home on Friday January 24, 2014. Born November 30, 1923 in Butte, Montana to Gladys and Joseph Neff. Mavis was preceded by husband, Michael Micknich; sister, Virginia Seeley; and both her parents. Mavis is survived by her children: daughter, Dorolyn Cooper, Rohnert Park, CA; son and daughter in law, Steve & Linda Micknich, Horseheads, NY; daughter and son in law, Sandra and Richard Clark, Elmira, NY. She is also survived by her loving grandchildren, Gary & Cindy Cooper, Antelope, CA, Desiree Cooper, Fairfield, CA, Denise & Larry Moheit, Vacaville, CA, Steve (Marlena) Micknich, Horseheads, Michelle & Rick Gryska, Horseheads, Anthony (Meg) Schimizzi, Melbourne, FL, and Kyle (Krysta) Schimizzi, Rochester, NY; and step-grandson, Brad Clark, Horseheads, NY. Mavis has been blessed with 12 great grandchildren and one great great grandson. She is also survived by sisters in law, Anna Havtur, Vestal, NY, Olga Michnich, Binghamton, NY, Mary Michnich, Leraysville, PA; brother in law, Joseph Michnich, Leraysville, PA; and many nieces and nephews. She is also survived by very close and caring friends Jim Brick of Erin, NY and Charlene Baldwin of Elmira, NY, Helen Bohlayer and Lyle. Mavis grew up in Butte, MT and also Bowbells, ND. She was a champion trick horseback rider in North Dakota. She moved to Corning, NY as a teenager. She worked at the Remington Rand, the Eclipse, and retired from Iszard's Dept. Store. Mavis enjoyed going to Polka Outings, any family gathering, and going out to dinner with the Wednesday Night Group. Mavis was so proud of her home and proud of the 73 years which she spent in it. Inc. 1050 Pennsylvania Ave. Elmira.on Monday January 27, 2014 From 2:00 PM to 4:00 PM and 6:00 PM to 8:00 PM with Funeral Services celebrating Mavis there Tuesday at 10:00 AM. The Pastor Leanne Zeck from New Beginnings Methodist Church will officiate the celebration of Mavis's life. Interment will follow in Maple Grove Cemetery in Horseheads, NY. The family would love to thank Dr. Roberto Mauri, Dr. Vincent La Delia and PA Stephanie Busch for providing not only outstanding medical care to Mavis but compassionate care to her also.
