Stangle, Marion L.

Dundee: Marion L. Stangle, age 85, of Dundee, NY died Sunday, February 13, 2011, in the comfort of her daughter's home in Dover, DE. There will be no prior calling hours. A memorial service will be held at 11:00 a.m. on Sat. (Feb. 19) at the Dundee United Methodist Church, 35 Water Street, Dundee with Rev. Marilyn Wood officiating. Burial will be private in Davenport Cemetery in Davenport, NY. Memorial contributions may be made to the Dundee United Methodist Church, 35 Water Street, or the Dundee Emergency Squad, 12 Union St., Dundee, NY 14837. Marion was born October 21, 1925 in Prattsville, NY, the daughter of the late Kenneth and Rose Louise Nelson Churchill. She graduated from Charlotte Valley Central School in Davenport, NY in 1943. She continued her education at Delhi Ag. & Tech., earning her Associates Degree in Institutional Management in 1946. On June 30, 1946 in Davenport, she married the late Arthur J. Stangle; he passed away on August 6, 2005. Marion was a School Lunch Manager for Delaware Academy from 1945-1948, and for the Candor Central School from 1957-1971. She has lived locally ever since. From 1971-1973 she worked with her husband at Lakeland Ag Farms. In 1973 she accepted a position in Cafeteria Service at Phelps-Clifton Springs Central School where she worked until her retirement in 1991. She was also a member of the N.Y. State School Food Association. Mrs. Stangle was a very active member of the Dundee United Methodist Church, she had represented the Dundee Methodists on the Dundee Area Council of Churches, member of the Board of Trustees, The Church Council and Past President of the United Methodist Women's Club, Mission Chairperson; involved with the Youth Programs and fondly thought of as the "pie lady" at all of the church dinners. Near and dear to Marion's heart was her mission work (United Methodist Woman Special Mission Recognition 2010) to fill and mail goody boxes to the service of troops overseas. In her spare time she enjoyed collecting antiques. She is loved and will be dearly missed by her daughter, Barbara Ann (Dr. Donald) Parks of Dover, DE; son, John Arthur Stangle of Waukesha, WI; 6 grandchildren, Captain Amylouise Parks Lantz (Army), Lieutenant Christopher Don-Arthur Parks (Jenni) (Navy), Rebecca (Les) Vertz, Sarah, Luke (Dana) and Alydia Stangle; 7 great-grandchildren, Zachery and Jared Lantz, Ariya, Alesha, Kaden, Alora Vertz and Madison Parks; a sister, Roberta Beach of Schenectady, NY. Her sisters-in-law, Carol Brewer, Esther Smith; brother-in-law, Martin Stangle; and several nieces and nephews also survive her. Arrangements are by the Baird Funeral Home, 36 Water Street, Dundee.

I was sorry to learn of Marion's passing. She was a faithful member of the church and I enjoyed all the time I worked with her at church projects
