McAlinn, Alaric. F.
Age 56 of Elmira passed away very unexpectedly on Friday, March 29, 2013 at Strong Memorial Hospital in Rochester. Al was born in Oceanside CA on July 6, 1956 a son of the late John Patrick and Doris (Lockwood) McAlinn. Al was a loving son, husband, father, grandfather, brother and friend. He is survived by his wife Kathleen V. (Long) McAlinn; children, Tara L. McAlinn, Charlotte NC, Jenna R. McAlinn, Jared P. McAlinn, Kathleen M. McAlinn, Jillian D. McAlinn all of Elmira; granddaughter Kirsten Robbins, North Carolina; brothers and sisters-in-law, John and Darsty McAlinn, Arcata CA, Patrick and Sue McAlinn, Morrisville NC, Arthur and Diane McAlinn, Smithfield NC, Harry and Mary McAlinn, Elmira, William and Julie McAlinn, Horseheads; sisters and brother-in-law, Michaela Ungvarsky, Deirdre and Mark Padgett all of Elmira, Mary and David Grandquest, Daphne AL; father-in-law and mother-in-law, Joseph D. Sr. and Antoinette "Tony" Long of Horseheads; sister-in-law and brothers-in-law, Julie and David Waschezyn, Aragon NM, Joseph D. Long Jr., Corning. Also surviving are numerous nieces and nephews. He was predeceased by brother-in-law Mark Ungvarsky and sister-in-law Mary Long. Al was a 1975 graduate of Southside High School where he was a standout wrestler and football player. He went on to earn a Bachelor's Degree from SUNY Cortland. Al was an Elmira police officer for 11 years before retiring because of an injury on the job. He was an avid hunter, skeet and trap shooter. He enjoyed playing chess with his father. Al especially loved to attend the activities of his children. He was always willing to help other people and was a "jack of all trades". He had a loving heart and never turned his back on anyone in need. Al and his best friend Phil Willsey were very involved in supporting numerous youth activities. Family and friends are invited to a Mass of Christian Burial at Ss. Peter & Paul Church on Tuesday, April 2, 2013 at 1:00 p.m.
