Beery, Carl Milton

Durham, NC: Carl Milton Beery, age 100, passed away Monday afternoon, March 31, 2014 at the Olson Center at the Forest at Duke following a period of declining health. He was born in Breman, OH to the late George W. and Melle Campfield Beery. From there he attended Ohio University in Athens, OH. After leaving college, he pursued a career in consumer banking, first with Commercial Credit Company of Baltimore, MD, and later with Marine Mioland Corporation of Buffalo, NY. He served Marine Midland in Elmira and Poughkeepsie, NY. He was President, Chairman of the Board, and a Director of the Marine Mioland Bank. After retiring in 1974, he served his country as a volunteer with the International Executive Service Corps. He also volunteered at Duke Medical Center and also at First Presybeterian Church, where he was a member and a ordained Elder. Mr. and Mrs. Beery became Durham residents after moving here from Elmira, NY on June 15, 1978. He continued his Rotary International affliation by joining the Downtown Durham Rotary Club in 1978. Surviving are his son, Donald Edward Beery his wife, Anne Maley Beery of New Orleans, LA and their three children, Barclay Donaldson Beery (Leslie), Alice Beery Herrington (Drew) and Kenneth Taylor Beery (Angel) all of New Orleans. His daughter, Judith Beery Brown (David) died previously. Her son, George Lyman is Mr. Beery's fourth grandchild. He is also survived by seven great grandchildren. His wife of 71 years, Jane Donaldson Beery died November 30, 2008.

A Memorial Service will be held at a later date. In lieu of flowers, memorials may be made to First Presbyterian Church, 305 East Main Street, Durham, NC 27701 or to The Forest at Duke, 2701 Pickett Road, Durham, NC 27705.
