Schneider, Glenn George
Glenn George Schneider, 65, of Hammondsport, NY and Mount Dora, Florida, died unexpectedly following heart surgery on February 20, 2014 in Mount Dora, Florida. Glenn was born to the late George and Jean Schneider on June 16, 1948 in Freeport, NY. He grew up in the Binghamton, NY area and graduated from Vestal High School in 1966. Glenn graduated from the University of Pennsylvania with a BA in Political Science and later completed an MBA at SUNY Binghamton. He married Pamela Cole in 1977 in Ithaca, New York and after living in Raleigh, North Carolina for 7 years moved to Corning, NY in 1986. In 2011 Glenn and Pam bought a home in Mount Dora, Florida to enjoy Florida's milder version of winter. Glenn worked in Information Technology at Corning Incorporated from 1979 to his retirement in 2002. He loved games and was an accomplished duplicate bridge player. He enjoyed working with kids and coached Big Flats youth basketball and CVSA soccer teams for many years. After retiring from Corning in 2002 Glenn pursued his passion for golf - spending countless hours on the course of the Corning Country Club. Rain or shine, and even occasionally in the snow, Glenn could be found on the course. He loved the game and enjoyed the camaraderie of his many golfing friends. Glenn was a devoted father to his son Dane and daughter Marita, and found joy in nurturing and supporting them.Glenn was intellectually curious, loyal and generous, patient and kind. He will be sorely missed by his family and by his many friends. Glenn is survived by his wife of 36 years, Pamela; daughter Marita and son Dane; sister Jan Schneider of Tacoma, Washington; sister-in-law Arleen Schneider of Binghamton, NY; nieces Nicole Furch of Hallstead, Pennsylvania, and Maria Schneider of Binghamton, NY; and nephew Matthew Schneider of Binghamton, NY. He was predeceased by his brother Mark Schneider. Pam, Dane, and Marita invite friends and family to join them in a Memorial and Celebration of Glenn's life on March 7th, at 4:00 p.m. at the Corning Country Club, refreshments to follow.
