Elmira: Age 86, passed away surrounded by family Wednesday, October 3rd, 2012. Harry was born in Lowman, NY on the family farm October 30, 1925. He was the son of the late Fred and Anastasia (Urban) Hatala. He was predeceased by his loving wife of 35 years Elizabeth Nemeth Hatala in 1989. Surviving Harry are his beloved daughters, Barbara Hatala, and Marie (Tom) Caroscio; granddaughters, Marisa Daugherty, Elizabeth and Kathleen Caroscio; long time companion, Emily Phillips McGuigan, along with many nieces and nephews all of whom were his "favorite"; and sisters-in-law, Sophie Hatala, Mary Nickerson, Anna and Phyllis Nemeth. In addition to his wife and parents, Harry is predeceased by his brothers, John Fesh, Steve Fesh, Steve Hatala, and Mike Hatala. He was a proud World War II Navy Veteran, serving on LST 890 in the Pacific. He often participated in school presentations on WWII, sharing his experiences with others. He looked forward to reunions of LST and amphibious groups. He was a member of the American Legion, and the long time proprietor of College Ave Motor Sales in Elmira. His love of all cars endured his lifetime, participating in area car shows, and local parades. He was an avid hunter and outdoorsman. Family and friends are invited to gather at the Olthof Funeral Home, Inc. 1050 Pennsylvania Avenue, Elmira/Southport, NY Friday, October 5th, 2012 from 4:00 to 7:00 PM. Funeral services will be held there Saturday at 10:00 AM. Graveside services with Military Honors accorded will follow at St. Peter and Paul's Cemetery. In lieu of flowers please make memorials in Harry Hatala's name to Carefirst (Southern Tier Hospice) or the Arctic League.
