NICKERSON, IRA JACK
Age 82 of Horseheads, NY passed away on Monday April 22, 2013. Jack was born January 7, 1931 in Catherine, NY the son of the late Ira J. and Evelyn Quick Nickerson. He graduated from Thomas A. Edison High School. Jack was a Veteran of The Korean War serving his country with The U.S. Navy. Jack married his wife Joan C. Denton Nickerson and she pre-deceased him on May 25, 2012 after 55 years of marriage. He was a member and The Post Historian of The Bentley-Trumble American Legion Post # 442 in Horseheads , NY. Jack was a former member of The Horseheads Elks Lodge # 2297. He worked at the A & P Plant until it closed and then formed his own business called The House Doctor. Jack was employed by The Elmira Savings Bank beginning in 1987 and he retired in 1997. He was a communicant and Eucharistic Minister at St. Mary Our Mother Church in Horseheads for many years. Jack loved his family and friends and treasured the time he spent with them. Mr. Nickerson is survived by his sons and daughter-in-law: David & Raelene Nickerson of Kent, OH, Michael & Chevonne Nickerson of Horseheads, NY, and Mark & Pam Nickerson of Horseheads, NY; grandchildren: Laken, Christian, and Abigail Nickerson, Sean and Jenna Nickerson, Carli and Logan Nickerson; brother and sister-in-law: Robert & Mary Nickerson of Horseheads, NY; several nieces, nephews, cousins, and many close and caring friends. Relatives and friends are invited to call at the LYNCH FUNERAL HOME 318 WEST BROAD STREET HORSEHEADS, NY on Sunday April 28, 2013 from 4-7 PM. Jack's Mass of Christian Burial will be celebrated on Monday April 29, 2013 at 10 AM in St. Mary Our Mother Church 816 West Broad Street & Westinghouse Road Horseheads, NY. Jack will be laid to rest next to his beloved wife Joan in St. Mary Our Mother Cemetery where Full Military Honors will be accorded Mr. Nickerson. Our heartfelt condolences goes out to the family & friends of "Jack." In my lifetime I have known many fine folks, & Jack definitely was one of them. He also made sure to speak to me anytime he saw me, especially at his beloved Legion Post #442.

I saw Jack a couple months ago and we chatted for a bit. He was so upbeat. What a nice guy!
He is now resting in the arms of of his Lord.

We'll miss Jack so much...he was a joy to talk with at the American Legion and Legends. Our deepest sympathy to his family and to everyone that he made feel like "family".

To the family - I used to play across the street from Jack and Joans house at my sister Donna Boulas and her husband John. As I grew up I became friends with them and we had some great times together. Jack always seemed happy and loved to talk up his family. He is with Joan now and he is happier still.

He was a Great Man and a very hard worker.He would put a smile on all are faces.Such a happy and Caring Man.
