Of Elmira, passed away Saturday, November 9, 2013 at Arnot Ogden Medical Center following declining health at the age of 70. Born on October 19, 1943, John was the son of the late, John E. Seagren & Josephine Black. He served in the US Army during Vietnam era, stationed in Korea and Washington DC as a M.P. John married Georgia Newkirk on May 1, 1965 and were married 37 years until she passed on Oct. 10, 2002. He was employed by the City of Elmira and the Chemung County Sheriff's Office as a police officer. In later years he was an independent over the road truck driver. His interests included hunting, fishing and automotive repair. Surviving is his loving family, children, Eric J. (Shelia) Seagren; Hope M. Seagren; grandchildren, Tyler Scott and Ryan Michael Seagren; Jonathan Michael, Jaridd James and Nicholas Jay Groves; Andrew Dylan Scott and Randi Fenton; great granddaughter, Joslin Riley Seagren; siblings, Lorie Seagren, Jan Budnar, Alan Seagren and Debbie Smith; several nieces, nephews and many in-laws from Georgia's family. Family and friends will be received at Caywood's Funeral Home & Gardens, 1126 Broadway, Southport/Elmira on Friday, November 15, 2013 from 11 a.m.- 12 (noon) Funeral services will follow at 12 (noon) with burial in Woodlawn National Cemetery, where full military honors will be accorded Mr. Seagren.
