Ruda, Karen Anne
Athens, PA: Karen Anne (Heider) Ruda, 54, of Athens, PA, passed away on October 9, 2013. Karen was born on November 17, 1958 in Carbondale, PA. She graduated in 1976 from St. Rose High School. In 1978 she graduated from the RPH School of Respiratory Therapy. Shortly after graduation, she worked as a respiratory therapist. After the birth of her first child, Karen did what she loved best, raising her family. From 2000-2007, she worked as a secretary in the administrative office of the Notre Dame High School in Elmira, NY, where all three of her children attended. From 2010 to the present, she has worked as a medical office assistant at the Guthrie Clinic in Sayre, PA. Karen's favorite role, and one in which she excelled, was that of mother and wife. Her strength in these roles permeated her life and the lives of those around her. Karen is survived by her loving husband, David. David and Karen celebrated their 35th wedding anniversary on October 7, 2013. Karen is also survived by her beloved children: Jason Ruda (and his partner Stephen) of New York City, NY, Anjelica Ruda of Washington D.C., and Marissa (Ruda) Smith and her husband David of Clarks Summit, PA. She is the daughter of Bernard and Marie Heider of Sayre, PA. Karen is also survived by her sister, Dianne (Heider) Webster and her husband Mark of Ogdensburg, NY.; mother-in-law, Veronica Ruda; sister-in-law, Charlotte (Ruda) Pace and her husband Robert; brothers-in-law, Joseph Ruda and wife Mary Ellen, Ronald Ruda and wife Barbara, Edward Ruda and wife Terri, Richard Ruda and wife Julie; 17 nieces and nephews, many great nieces and nephews, cousins, aunts, uncles and friends. She is predeceased in life by father-in-law, Joseph (Boss) Ruda. Karen's legacy of love lives on in the family and friends left behind. Her optimism and joyful personality drew out the best in those around her and will forever be remembered by those whose lives she touched. In lieu of flowers, donations may be made in Karen's memory to the No-Kill Animal Shelter, Centre County Paws, in State College, PA. Donations can be made in her honor at http://www.centrecountypaws.org/donate/. By Karen's request, there will be no calling hours. Those wishing to attend, the church will be open for an hour of prayer at 9 a.m. followed by a Mass of Catholic Burial at the Epiphany Church in Sayre, PA at 10 a.m. on Saturday, October 12, 2013. Arrangements have been entrusted to the Alteri-Bowen Funeral Home. Directly after Mass, there will be a reception in the church basement. All are welcome to attend. Burial services will be held at St. John the Baptist Cemetery in Exeter, PA. She will be deeply missed.
