Cummings, Martha F.

Martha F. Cummings, age 85, of Corning passed away peacefully after a short illness, Saturday, February 15, 2014 at Robert Packer Hospital of Sayre, PA. with her oldest grandchild Becky by her side. Martha was born May 18, 1928 in Campbell, NY. She is the daughter of the late Chester and Marion (Horton) Frost. She married Burton Cummings on June 1, 1946. She was predeceased by her husband on June 5, 2005. Martha attended the Red School House in Campbell, then graduated at the age of 16 from Painted Post High School and worked for several years in the accounting department at Ingersoll Rand in Painted Post. She was the former Hornby Town Clerk, served as the pianist/organist at Hornby Congregational Church and performed secretarial duties at the Wheat Agency in Corning. Martha volunteered much time throughout her life to various organizations in Hornby and Corning as well. Martha was a woman of great faith who spent much of her time in service to the Lord as a wife, mother, grandmother and friend. She touched many people with her love, support and prayers. Martha was a member of both Hornby Congregation Church and Ray Of Hope Church. She is survived by three daughters: Donna Cummings of Hornby, NY, Linda Gall of Baltimore, MD., Lisa (Stephen Fox) Frost of Horseheads, NY and two sons: Keith (Cathy) Cummings of Livonia, NY, Kenneth Cummings of Spencer, NY; one sister, Betty Barkley of Bath, sisters-in-law; Pat, Alice, Helen and Bev. She also has twelve grandchildren, nineteen great-grandchildren and many nieces, nephews and cousins. Martha was pre-deceased by four brothers; Alton, Dean, Carl and Fay Frost. Friends will be received Thursday February 20th from 5:00 p.m. to 7:00 p.m. at the Phillips Funeral Home and Cremation Service, 17 W. Pulteney St. in Corning, services will be held there Friday at 10:00 a.m. Burial will be in the spring at Fairview Cemetery in Painted Post.
