OLDHAM, Richard (Dick) Ellis

Wellsburg, NY: Age 89, of 14 Main Street passed away peacefully on Friday, March 28th 2014 at the Robert Packer Hospital, Sayre, PA. He was born May 29, 1924 in Elmira, NY, the son of the late Ellis and Hazel (Terry) Oldham of Elmira. He was married to the former Virginia Kelley on April 14, 1955 in Towanda, PA who predeceased him on July 16, 2005. They enjoyed 50 golden years of life and love together. He had a brother, Robert (Francis) with two sons, Terry and Tom; his sisters were: Lois (Richard) Alley with son David and daughters Joann and Susan; Helen (David) Lyvic with sons Jerry and Kenneth and with daughter Debbie; Dick had a son, Richard Ellis Oldham, Jr. with his first wife, Lula Oldham; other close and extended family includes: sister-in-law, LaNora (John) Scheasley; nephews, Eldred (Pearl) Peck of Walpole, NH; Paul (Dolly) Scheasley of Lake Wylie, SC; very close friends Margaret Laura (George) Scheasley Mysnyk of Vestal, NY. Dick graduated from Southside High School and served as part of the Greatest Generation with service in the US Navy at sea as a radar operator during World War II and Korea. He earned an Honorable Discharge and several Distinguished Service Medals. His working years as a machinist included employment in Elmira (Remington Rand) and in Philadelphia, PA while living in the state of Delaware. Dick and Virginia enjoyed many years of retirement by hunting and camping in the Barclay mountain state game lands near Canton, PA. Family and friends are invited to attend Graveside Services on Thursday, April 3, 2014 at 2:30 in the Woodlawn Cemetery, 1200 Walnut Street, Elmira. Rev. David Daniels will officiate and the Chemung County Veterans Honor Squad will accord Mr. Oldham with the honors he deserves.
