Corning: Genevieve A. Tarantelli, age 95, of Corning, passed peacefully with her angels to Heaven on Saturday, April 12, 2014, at Corning Center for Rehabilitation and Healthcare after a short illness. Genny was born October 17, 1918 in Galeton, PA. She was the daughter of the late Pasquale and Grace (Martuscello) Pagano. She married Edmond L. Tarantelli on September 27, 1944 in Galeton, PA. She was predeceased by him on July 17, 1980. Genny owned and operated with her husband, Edmond, Tarantelli's Sunnyside Restaurant on West Market Street in Corning, NY until 1979 and was named business woman of the year in Corning. While involved with the restaurant, Genny and her husband supported the Corning Red Sox, Corning Summer Theatre, and numerous local sports groups. Genny was an avid volunteer, giving her time freely and receiving numerous awards for her efforts. In her later years she developed the New York Southern Tier Dancing Grannies, a well-known senior activity dancing group. As a dancing instructor she was continuously involved in ballroom dancing and square dancing, adding to the enjoyment to many lives. Genny loved to travel and enjoyed watching her grandchildren's activities. She laughed, she dance,d and she always tried to make those around her feel good. In her own words, "If I have a mission-that would be to make others smile and forget their troubles." Genny is survived by her sister, Edith Piaquadio; brother, Ernest Pagano, both of Galeton, PA; two sons: Frederick (Sandra) Tarantelli of Williamsburg, VA and William (Kathleen) Tarantelli Honeoye Falls, NY; grandchildren: Todd Michael (Tammy), Lisa Annette (Shon) Liddle, Edmond Ryan (Dawn), Joseph Dominick and Michael Powers; great-grandchildren, Zachery Thomas and Jacob Nicholas Tarantelli, Samantha Morgan Liddle and Maryssa Faith Tarantelli; numerous nieces and nephews; and a very close friend and confidant "daughter," Faith (Terry) Cassbeer. Besides her husband, Edmond, Genny was predeceased by her brothers: Frank, James, Albert, Anthony, Carmen and Alfred Pagano; sisters: Rose Close, Mary McConnell, and Agnus O'Brien. Calling hours will be Tuesday, April 15, 2014, from 4:00 to 7:00 p.m. at Carpenter's Funeral Home, LLC, 14 East Pulteney Street, Corning, NY. A prayer service will be held at 10:00 a.m. on Wednesday, April 16, 2014, at Carpenter's Funeral Home, LLC, 14 East Pulteney Street, Corning, NY. A Mass of Christian Burial will be held at 1:00 p.m. on Wednesday, April 16, 2014, at St. Bibiana Parish, 111 Germania Street, Galeton, PA with Rev Joseph Dougherty officiating. Burial will be in West Hill Cemetery, Galeton, PA.
